Nestled in the heart of Chorleywood, Rootz is a charming coffee shop and breakfast restaurant that perfectly blends a warm, family-run atmosphere with exceptional home-cooked fare. This delightful spot has quickly become a beloved local gem, celebrated for its vibrant menu and approachable yet refined flavors that cater to every palate.
Rootz’s cuisine highlights center around hearty British breakfast classics elevated with thoughtful twists, alongside fresh, wholesome all-day options. The Full English Breakfast, available in traditional, vegetarian, and vegan versions (each priced at £10.95), is a standout favorite, serving up a satisfying array of perfectly cooked Cumberland sausages, eggs done to your liking, and flavorful accompaniments. For something lighter yet equally indulgent, their Avocado Toast—often paired with chorizo or poached eggs—is irresistibly creamy and fresh, offering a rich balance of textures and tastes. Fans of toasties will appreciate the granary felafel and hummus sandwich, served with crisp salad and crisps, a comforting vegetarian option packed with bold, wholesome flavors.
The menu also offers a delightful range of sweet treats—think moist Coffee Cake, luscious Tiramisu, and decadent Chocolate Cake—all beautifully complemented by expertly crafted cappuccinos and flat whites made from ethically sourced coffee beans. Many regulars rave about the exceptional coffee here, with its rich aroma and velvety texture that makes each sip a moment to savor.
One of the most captivating elements of Rootz is the genuine warmth of its service and atmosphere. Descriptions from patrons like WillB highlight the friendly, welcoming staff and the sensible pricing that makes returning a no-brainer. Sally Munroe's praise of the busy yet attentive environment underscores the café’s ability to maintain a cozy, family-run charm amidst a bustling crowd. Jonathan Rush’s note about the careful accommodation of allergies and gluten-free needs speaks volumes about the thoughtful attention to detail here, making Rootz a truly inclusive dining experience.
The inviting interior is a cozy backdrop that perfectly matches the home-cooked feeling of the food. Whether you’re stopping by for a leisurely weekend coffee with cake—like Emma Partridge—or sitting down to a delicious panini or one of their creative full breakfasts, Rootz offers a comforting refuge where flavors and friendliness meld seamlessly.
In short, Rootz isn’t just about meals; it’s about creating a heartfelt experience through quality, taste, and a welcoming spirit. For anyone in the Rickmansworth area seeking a dependable spot to enjoy a superb breakfast, brunch, or casual lunch, Rootz stands out as a destination not to be missed.
Always superb food, very friendly service and sensibly priced. Here's my personal fave, poached eggs, avocado, an extra slice of toast and a flat white. Highly recommended
Excellent family run independent coffee shop. Very busy serving great coffee, free trade teas and lovely smoothies and shakes. All served alongside home cooked food. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area
The staff recommended the Tiffin - it was wonderful! Great good value food. Loved the Avocado and Chorizo on Sourdough!
Amazing family-run cafe with lovely warm atmosphere. Excellent gluten free options and they take allergies seriously!
My go to for a weekend coffee and cake! Always a great coffee, lots of choice for other drinks and a great selection of cakes and sweet treats. Never had a cooked meal there but the plates always look amazing when they’re brought out for others! The staff are lovely and friendly as well. Highly recommend
My partner lives nearby so we occasionally pop in to Rootz for a morning coffee or breakfast. Service is always really friendly and the lovely food is prepared to order. Their vegetarian breakfast makes a great start to the day, while my partner really likes the full English. They also have a nice selection of arts and crafts for sale. It can be a little busy on weekend mornings but you can usually find a table. Rootz is definitely a far nicer option than the branch of a certain large national franchise down the road.
A lovely café with a natural, earthy feel — calm, wholesome, and wonderfully inviting. It has a fresh, healthy atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease.
I recently visited this coffee shop and was blown away by the quality of their coffee and food. The espresso was rich and flavorful, and the latte art was a beautiful touch. The food was also delicious, with a great selection of pastries and sandwiches that were freshly made and tasted amazing. The ambiance of the coffee shop was cozy and inviting, with comfortable seating and a warm atmosphere. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while catching up on work or reading a book. Overall, I highly recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee and delicious food in a cozy environment. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the quality of the coffee and food really stood out. I will definitely be back!
